is like a moving target and that was done purposely so we would not chop
the building to meet the cost. For every sq foot we reduce the building,
the budget reduces. If we chop off that gym, the budget goes down .
Bill said additional space is still needed that hasn ' t been provided for -
equipment storage.
Design Development Cost Estimate: $23 ,414, 559
Site Savings - $ 958,835
Building Savings - $ 721 . 327
$21 , 734, 397
Budget $21 , 300 , 000
Paul disagreed, the budget is $20, 130 , 000 plus value added. It is $1 . 6
million off.
SMMA included some additional potential savings (pg 4) . If the Committee
accepts all of these there is a $138, 595 savings.
The Committee accepted, at the last meeting, all but $40 , 000 of the savings
for the site.
Ed said if you total all of the little items it would amount to $250,000 in
savings. You have to look at the big items.
Paul suggested going down the list and prioritize each item:
1 least important to keep
3 most important to keep.
1 . Carpet - 3
3. Blinds - 2 . Dr. DeMoura does not think they are need in all the windows.
4. Provide tectum like treatment - 1
5 . Elevator size - 3
8 . 2
12 . 1
13. 3 . Ed suggested all the curtain wall could be hollow metal but it
would have to be painted often . Paul said it will not get painted. Changed
it to a 2 .
14. Operable wall in Alternate Ed. Have to take a serious look at it. 2
16 . 1
18. Ray was going to look at it. Ed said it is their charge to do this in
a less expensive way. 1
20 . Again, is a design issue Ray was looking at. 1
21 . 1
25 . 3
25a. 2
24. Floor drains at emergency shower was already taken . Dr. Demoura asked
where the water was going to go? He hopes these decisions are based on
educational reasons also.
Paul said $3 million is a lot of money to cut. The Committee is trying to
maintain the educational integrity of this building .
Bob explained the Mashpee Health Department suggested deleting the drains
because when they dry out they smell .
29 . 3
31 . 1 .
