MASHPEE HIGH SCHOOL BUILDING COMMITTEE TUESDAY , JULY 26 , 1994 TOWN HALL Members Present: Paul Griffin , Bill Martiros, Peter Dinizio, Janice Mills , Merry Sue Ahlgren , Michael Pare , Joe Polito, Steve Greelish Also Present: Greg Taylor , Tom Fudala, Dr . Lincoln DeMoura, Ian Aitchison , Tom Wren , Bill Cottrell , Shannon Scarlett, Tony Esteves , Ray Bordwell , Ed Frenette , Bob Fournier , Norris McCloud Meeting convened at 4: 00 p .m. Bill Martiros had asked if the Committee could start meeting , without any consultants , for 15-20 minutes . ** Merry Sue made a motion to accept the minutes of July 6 and July 12 . Paul seconded the motion . All members were in favor . ** Bill Martiros said Chartwell , at the last meeting , presented a lot of data and the Committee only reviewed a couple of pages because we are on such a hurry-up course . The Committee should try to figure where they are , before meeting with the consultants . The Committee expects Chartwell will go over all that information , relative to the project at today ' s meeting . Paul said because there is so much information the Committee can ' t go over it all at a meeting . They should read it and be prepared to ask questions at the next meeting . Bill said the off peak roof the Committee chose is the same as the highway department building . If you look at that building you will see the whole roofline. He does not like it . Merry Sue noted you will only see that view from the football field . Peter explained he met with the Selectmen on Monday night. Bill Jones was there saying there are educational problems with the building and financial irresponsibility . Bill Jones and Nancy Caffyn are definitely for reducing the size of the building . Bill said he spoke with school principals who agree with him that junior senior high together is educationally unsound . Selectmen Caffyn made a motion to have the School Committee prove the 1180 student figure is worthwhile for the town but it did not draw a second. Bill was told to bring any further questions to the School Committee . Michael Pare said he has contacted people in Michigan about the work of Childs . He spoke with a few schools that had to hire someone else after Childs completed their work to clean up the mess . He did hear they were good at educational programming- software set up . Their expertise does not lie in designing infrastructure . Paul said that work is not under the scope of SMMA ' s contract, it' s under equipment. The Committee can use Tavares , who submitted a quote, or find someone else . Merry Sue asked Michael if there are people out there who do this and can he give the Committee and SMMA names of firms to use . Paul said Childs ' scope of services is to provide assistance to the Committee to be sure the building has the necessary options to provide for
