Paul asked, if at any time in the future we want to put up a wall , does it <br /> make a difference which layout we choose? <br /> Phil said it does because of the location of the doors . <br /> Steve suggested they also ask Dr. DeMoura if it is worth keeping the space. <br /> Joe will take the 2 sketches to Dr. DeMoura and Gus Fredricks . <br /> Library Area - spatial arrangement review. <br /> There was concerns from Childs about the library layout, about stacking and <br /> seating being intermixed . <br /> They presented a sketch of a scheme to resolve that. <br /> This proposal pushes the rooms out to the atrium side which results in the <br /> stacking space being wider. <br /> One obstacle was the location of the elevator so they propose moving it to <br /> the front lobby , just east of the front door. <br /> They will be working with Manny Tavares to refine this. They see an <br /> integration of stacks , seating and technology . <br /> Phil said there will be improvements to the first floor that they do not <br /> yet have drawings for. The principal ' s office shifts back , the elevator <br /> moves and the secretary/reception area is larger. <br /> Phil suggested dialoging with Dr. DeMoura on these changes and they will <br /> send him copies of the sketches . <br /> Merry Sue and Janice do not want Dr. DeMoura to make the final decisions. <br /> The sketches can be sent to his office for Committee members review. <br /> Omission of second floor ceiling . Phil said eliminating the ceiling will <br /> add volume to the space but will require up sizing all unit ventilators to <br /> the next size. They do not have a price on that. He does not think there <br /> is necessarily a cost savings. <br /> Ed added they will then have to organize the elements more carefully and it <br /> may become difficult. They would prefer to leave the ceiling in. <br /> The Committee agreed they can proceed that way. <br /> Paul explained he talked to Phil about the possibility of using the library <br /> as a central library in the future. You could use the back exit and create <br /> a second reception area for after hours use. If the building is open at <br /> night, then it is not a problem. <br /> Phil told Joe he will speak to Bill Hauck about the egress. He feels there <br /> is no question it meets the building code. <br /> - They looked at the effect of a 3 hour wall in the auditorium. Phil feels <br /> it is not a big deal , just a matter of spray proofing the columns. <br /> A 3 hour wall was never discussed for the cafeteria/kitchen . The kitchen <br /> has a 1 or 2 hour wall . <br /> -They added another egress to the auditorium, so it now has 4 means of <br /> egress. He will review it with the Building Inspector. <br /> Joe asked how costly is the Point? <br /> Paul said it is a done deal . <br /> Joe asked about the atrium space at the end of the stair wells in the <br /> academic wings, is there any cost savings in eliminating them? <br /> 9 <br />
