MASHPEE HIGH SCHOOL BUILDING COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES TUESDAY, DECEMBER 20, 1994 TOWN HALL Present: Bill Martiros, Joe Polito, Merry Sue Ahlgren, Paul Griffin , Janice Mills, Steve Greelish Also Present: Tom Wren , Ian Aitchison , Dr.DeMoura, Bill Hauck , Greg Taylor, Gus Fredricks Meeting convened at 4: 15 p. m. MINUTES ** Merry Sue made a motion to accept the minutes of Nov. 22 , Nov 29 and December 13 . Janice seconded the motion . All members were in favor 6-0 . COMMITTEE DISCUSSION Bill Martiros talked about the cafeteria. It is 50 x 100 feet . 100 foot wall is all glass. The ceiling ranges from 27 down to 22 feet high . He calculates that to be 127 , 000 cubic feet of space to heat. That space will be very expensive to heat. He would like to see figures from the architects on the cost to heat that space. Merry Sue noted the wall is not all glass . There is a lot of glass, but the ground floor is not all glass. Dr. DeMoura said the Coombs school is 69 , 000 sq feet and it cost almost as much to heat as the Middle School at 121 , 000 sq feet. The difference is the Coombs school has a lot of glass and a lot of outside wall space . Paul said the Committee can tell SMMA of their concerns about heating that area. One criteria in their contract is to provide an energy efficient building . Bill suggested they could reduce the amount of glass in the cafeteria and still maintain the "style" . Paul said the Committee will give SMMA that problem - ask them to look at it. Ian said SMMA's contract includes they provide an energy analysis. Paul said it doesn 't pay to do any analysis until the design documents are done . He suggested telling SMMA: the Committee is owed an energy analysis, they want a description of the analysis and ask when they will deliver it. After getting that information , the Committee can decide if it is or isn ' t acceptable. Merry Sue said she likes the glass . If it is a problem, it may just be a matter of change to more efficient glass - there needs to be an analysis . Bill Hauck asked about the orientation of the windows (glass)? If it is South you will have a heat problem. Paul said there will be a canopy . Ray did an analysis of the sun 's position and it' s impact should be minimal . Paul spoke with Woodard and Curran about the treatment plant. They are studying alternative systems but Paul thinks this plant will be a RBC because it is what the State understands, and because of timing . The State i
