explained it is a fire exit with exit only hardwarf' •
Staff lounge could be centrally located in each house .
Provide foyer for auditorium, the dining facility is acting as that now but
if there is a barrier there will be congestion.
There is a writing surface that can be applied directly to wall surfaces
which may be cheaper than a framed unit but they were unable to get more
information on that .
Integrate the library closer to the academic wing . She feels presently
there are several barriers .
Simplify- the library plan, the band room plan and dining facility for
faculty.
Ian explained none of these ideas are cast in stone . They are benchmarks
for other ideas to get back to the baseline .
Peter asked how much is in the budget for value added?
Paul explained 1/2 million for value added and 1/2 million for design
changes .
Ian also stated the sewage treatment plan is estimated at $850 , 000-900 , 000 .
His consultant thinks it may be closer to $500-600 , 000 and Steve Greelish
agreed but now it is just a matter of opinion.
Paul said he talked with Chartwell about developing the report in different
categories- value added to the project , cost savings to the budget . The
report lacks that. . It looks at the construction cost issue but he does not
see anything that talks about value added. We have to knot,- where the value
is .
Bill Cottrell said they will develop that information later , time was short
during the workshop . They were concentrating on reducing the cost to get
down to the budget .
Paul said the Committee needs the other component in order to make choices .
He said Chartwell ' s charge is to give the Committee a value analysis .
Getting down to the budget is the charge of the architects .
Ian said he is not saying that information will not be made available . If
any of these items are not acceptable to the Committee , why proceed with a
value analysis .
Janice said she feels like this is the second meeting in a row where she is
operating in a vacuum. Should the Committee do their homework and then
respond to the report next week? If not it is stupid to have a Committee
of towns people .
SMMA' s report ha 4 categories-
We concur with the recommendation.
Needs further evaluation.
Requires owner direction.
We do not concur/recommend .
Ed Frenette said the first step is to see if the Committee concurs with the
items SMMA concurs with.
Paul asked SMMA if they had any other items they will be discussing other
than this list? They have not identified additional items as of today.
The full document lists the advantages and disadvantages of each
recommendation.
6
