G & P agree if it does not become a <br /> weather issue . <br /> Marry Sue wants to see the re-design before deciding. <br /> Steve said canopies at other school they visited were steel , needed to be <br /> painted and when not maintained looked terrible . A concrete system would <br /> weather better from a maintenance point of view . <br /> Paul said it would need a lot of concrete to support it and the cost would <br /> go way up. <br /> *The Committee agreed to ask the architect to look at precast structure so <br /> there is not a lot of exposed steel . <br /> 02-5 - G&P recommend reducing corridor space wherever possible . SMMA <br /> should look at this particular area sand come back to the Committee . <br /> Merry Sue has a problem with the way the first floor is designed and if you <br /> take the corridor away it will be ever weirder - how will you get at it . It <br /> is awkward . <br /> *The Committee agreed to ask SMMA to investigate reducing corridor , while <br /> maintaining natural light. <br /> 02-6 - Roof at classroom block using single not double pitch . Issue should <br /> be re-addressed . <br /> 03-1 - G&P recommend a double layer of GWB with a skim layer of plaster , on <br /> the walls which face exterior. Take out the block , use steel studs and 2 <br /> sheets of drywall with skim coat of plaster for a $230 , 000 savings . The <br /> exposed space is only between the windows. It makes putting in the Window <br /> cheaper . <br /> Peter had a concern about the skim coat . At Rockport it was all dented and <br /> peeled off . <br /> Paul said it probably wasn ' t skim coat . You will get sound benefit from <br /> the drywall vs . block . *The Committee agreed . <br /> 03-2 - Reduce the skylighting where possible . *Everyone agreed . <br /> 03-3 Bluestone in entrance lobby and all main vestibules . G&P suggested an <br /> entrance mat instead , it will take sand and mud off shoes and won ' t be <br /> slippery. <br /> 03-4 - Roof design issue . Ask SMMA to review it . <br /> 03-5 - G&P disagree and ask SMMA and Chartwell to look at longer life <br /> materials. <br /> Ian said cedar can weather naturally , Nauset looks good . Cedar panels will <br /> last 45-50 years at least. <br /> Paul does not think they look good . Joe said they don ' t have the scale we <br /> re looking for . <br /> Paul said there are a lot of good , inexpensive block materials which can be <br /> used in the back of the building . Why consider wood products that are <br /> subject to maintenance costs? <br /> Paul asked Ian and SMMA to review the different life cycle costs of the <br /> different exterior products . <br /> 3 <br />
