MASHPEE HIGH SCHOOL BUILDING COMMITTEE <br /> MINUTES OF AUGUST 23, 1994 <br /> Present were: Peter Dinizio, Merry Sue Ahlgren, Stephen <br /> Greelish, William Martiros , Joseph Polito, Michael Pare, Bill <br /> Hauck, Greg Taylor, Bob Whritenour, Bob Fournier, Mark Pare, <br /> Ian Aitchinson, Tom Wren, (Janice Mills arrived later) . <br /> An informal discussion occurred regarding choice of windows <br /> and their placement in the gymn and locker rooms , and input <br /> was given by the athletic director/PE instructor from Weston. <br /> Also, discussed was the weight room and making it an adaptive <br /> program if it becomes mandated, the possibilities for having <br /> a soccer field, concession stand, outdoor lighting, bubblers <br /> for tennis and practice area, and tennis courts. <br /> The meeting was called to order at 4: 30 p.m. <br /> The Minutes of August 16 , 1994 were accepted. <br /> Bill Hauck reported on doors and code guidelines . <br /> Peter Dininzio stated that there is a need to investigate <br /> reducing the plant to get efficiency and save money. <br /> Mark Pare spoke on the variance for the septic system. He <br /> reported that two schools (Nauset Regional and Tingsboro) were <br /> successful in convincing DEP, and the water usage was less than <br /> Title V. It took 18 months from start to completion. He <br /> described the factors involved in building a treatment plant , <br /> increasing the organic components in the treatment process , <br /> and general costs for add-ons ( chemicals, sludge removal , <br /> phosphorous removal . Bill Martiros stated we need cost <br /> comparisons for a treatment plant vs. alternate systems. Steve <br /> Greelish is familiar with Bioclear, which DEP is favorable . <br /> Mary Sue Almgren wants to make sure that there is no problem <br /> with environmentalists over these systems. Peter stated the <br /> State is not reimbursing for this and stressed the need to make <br /> a cost efficient choice . Mark Pare stated that he is not <br /> promoting any particular system, but it is important to look <br /> at the operating costs per year. Steve suggested that a meeting <br /> be set up with DEP to determine their preferences and have our <br /> Board of Health present along with Mark. Mary Sue suggested <br /> also meeting with environmentalists. Bob Fournier noted there <br /> are other manufacturers similar to Bioclear; we have to name <br /> three for the State. Title V numbers were designed before low <br /> flush toilets; 20 gallons per student was satisfactory. We <br /> have to look at waste as well as flow. Peter brought up the <br /> River issue and what concentrations would be reaching it and <br /> would the concentrated plume be a hazard. Mark stated that <br /> phosphorous and temperature will impact the River; there would <br /> need to be studies . Peter stated that we promised the town <br />
