' Paul said , for this last phase of technology , the Committee thought this
scope was beyond the reach of CCR. What would make the Committee choose
this firm over someone else? What other projects have they worked on
comparable to this one?
Mr. Kirwin said they are working for the City of Cambridge , developing an
overall city plan of infrastructure and equipment - only CCR is working on
that .
City of Brockton, they are doing the entire city plan.
They are working on the FF&E for technology in the Franklin schools . He
said it is important for the Committee to explore that list . They have
added others to their team because of the curriculum component . They chose
someone who is already good at it . They believe a bigger team would be
good here .
Paul said Mashpee does not have any teachers , does not have any curriculum.
The principal and superintendent will be putting it together. What can
( software companies do to help assist implementing it into the curriculum.
, Carol said first they assess what you need. They can identify grants ,
( money that is out there to build capacity in software . They give teachers
a showcase of the software available at their center. You need to have a
teacher to champion the effort to convince all the other teachers .
' Paul asked if it is an advantage not having the teachers?
Mr. Kirwin said you can use it as a marketing advantage in hiring teachers .
Bill asked , with Mashpee ' s timeframe , when do they come in to train the
teachers?
Karol said in Sept . 1995 they would start to make the assessments so by
( Sept . 1996 you have your structure in place .
Mr. Kirwin said if you can coordinate hiring the teachers before Sept . 1996
you will clearly benefit from that .
' Paul said the superintendent and principal will decide when it gets
implemented.
Bill asked Mr. Kirwin if he had any insight on equipment purchasing .
Mr. Kirwin said the kind of equipment comes out of the process . It has to
allow you to meet our objective but you have to design your objectives
first .
Bill asked where they will get the objectives?
Mr. Kirwin said they will use who ever is here- 7 & 8th grade teachers ,
principal , superintendent , this Committee . The RFP acknowledges the
shortage of input .
Peter asked Carol what her position is at MEC?
She said she is a network operations manager. Today, she is filling in for
Dr. Goodrich , her boss , who works with assessments .
Peter asked her if she ever heard of the Dept . of Rural Electrification
grant?
Carol said the 413 area of MA has taken advantage of that money .
MEC will help the town identify where the money is .
Ed asked Mr. Kirwin is there is any advantage to being regional/local
regarding grants , software and equipment support and post occupancy
10
