They have had the iron workers on site to review and discuss any
potential problems .
Paul asked if they have seen any shop drawings for exterior
finishes?
Joel said not the block but all the accessories .
Mr. Barthelmes said they will be doing a 4 x 4 mock up of the
wall , they just need to determine a location. All the paperwork
is in and back. The samples must be approved.
Paul said if this can be worked out before the 12th, the
Committee can start the meeting there to review them. The
Committee will be better off seeing the wall , SMMA can review the
samples .
Peter mentioned his concern of efflorescence . He explained the
problem the middle school addition had with moisture . Stone
needs a good plan to dry the building out .
Mr. Barthelmes said the efflorescence is the salt in the bricks
coming out of the brick from the moisture inside . The biggest
water producer is the slab and they are down now. They will be
heating the building all through construction. He thanked them
for the warning about moisture.
Draft Change Order: Tom said there is not much more to report.
Stone is requesting 4 more weeks on top of the 3 weeks they have
already had.
Paul would like to hear from SMMA at the next meeting regarding
Stone ' s change order submission.
Paul explained that Stone does not believe they are responsible
for the overtime for clerk of the works . Paul asked Chartwell
for a written response on why it should be Stone ' s responsibility
and he asked Town Council to review the issue .
If overtime is required, because they are behind , then clearly
the overtime is their fault. If it is voluntary overtime that is
a different issue . He wants to warn the Committee there is a
potential addition to Chartwell ' s contract for the clerk' s
overtime .
Peter asked if the clerk has to be on site whenever someone is
working overtime?
Paul said Jim has used his judgement and been there only for key
elements . He has used good judgement to date and Paul continues
to talk about it with him.
Peter asked Bill Hauck if he has been to the site?
Bill said so far he has seen good quality work. The clerk is the
person who oversees the work, Bill is just checking codes.
The engineer has the legal responsibility for inspections on the
job.
Bill said he looks for details . If they are taking care of
details it gives you a clue about the quality of construction.
If they are behind schedule you really have to watch out .
Paul said that Jim has a keen eye . Personally, he is very
4
V
it
