MASHPEE HIGH SCHOOL BUILDING COMMITTEE TUESDAY, MARCH 21 , 1995 TOWN HALL Members Present: Merry Sue Ahlgren , Joe Polito, Steve Greelish , Paul Griffin, Bill Martiros, Peter Dinizio, Janice Mills Also Present: Tom Wren, Ian Aitchison, Phil Poinelli , Dr . DeMoura, Mike Pietrowski , Greg Taylor The Committee decided to hold off any discussion/approval of minutes until after the bids are in , therefore the minutes will not yet be public record. The Committee will inform everyone who receives minutes that information has not yet been approved and could be sensitive to the bid issue ; please consider them confidential until after the bids are in . COMMITTEE DISCUSSION Paul explained they are going to delay the submittal of the bid for the site clearing for 1 week . All bidders received a fax telling them bids are due 1 week later . All the necessary paperwork was not yet into the State . SMMA believes they can get it all to the State in the next few days. Everyone agreed it best to delay it one week . Steve asked if they have a commitment from DOE? Paul said they have to have all the pieces first. Steve asked what the strategy is? Paul said they will get all the paperwork into DOE in the next few days and then get an indication from them. They want DOE to be happy with the filing and then we will know if we can proceed or not. Steve has some questions , from going through the plans . There is an 8" water main from Old Barnstable Road and 151-why? Paul said there is a letter form SMMA regarding this : The Fire Chief wanted it that way . If one was eliminated , the remaining pipe size would have to be increased to 10" and the price was so minimal they should not fight the Chief on this issue . Steve does not believe the hydrolic loading issue would increase the pipe from 8" to 10" . Paul said it is a fire protection issue; for worst condition of all sprinklers going on at once . Steve asked if the two are connected? They are . He said when there is a break in one, you will loose pressure on the other. A cut off will have to be added to preserve the pressure. He has a hard time with this but there is probably no time left to do anything about it. Steve said the retaining ponds seem extensive, it is major over kill . It is not a minor cost item. Phil said he can ' t respond to it, he is not a civil engineer. He can get an answers . He said Brian Lawlor is not doing this arbitrarily, it is probably his feeling this is good engineering practice. BUDGET FF&E _ $4 , 542 , 797 . Technology is $1 . 3 million .
