deciding how this community will be run .
Peter said this should be brought to a Selectmen ' s meeting .
Steve said he is a little surprised by this, when he had the
meeting with the State , they indicated a lot of people were very
interested in the project; he got the impression they meant
outside people, legislators , etc.
Dr. DeMoura said the State did receive a lot of calls from a lot
of people in town , Finance Committee members , 1 or 2 Selectmen , a
lot of parents.
Ed told the Committee they are very well served by Dr. DeMoura,
he works well with the State Dept. of Ed .
Paul agreed , the State had a lot of high praise for Dr . DeMoura' s
efforts. They like the program being developed and they like the
school .
Ed said the town should develop a method for reigning in
divergent opinions, in the future.
Paul said the town owes a lot of these people a lot of gratitude
for their efforts . Ed suggested writing them a very nice letter .
Paul agreed but believes it should come from the Selectmen , he
will draft the letter .
FF & E
The Committee wanted to see the rational behind the estimate .
Ed explained the rational is to 100% equip the building , even
though on opening day it will only be 65% full . No one is
recommending you buy 100% now.
The only way to refine the prices further is through design , the
next stage. Before that it is only a budget, not an estimate.
Paul said there had to be certain assumptions made by Mr. Tavares
and Childs .
Ed said for group III equipment, for example, Manny Tavares will
have to sit with a teacher and find out what equipment they
need/want.
Paul said that will be a major problem because teachers won ' t be
here.
Dr . DeMoura said it does not have to be a teacher but a person
with expertise who can make those recommendations .
Ed said he does not know how to give the Committee more
information than this .
Merry Sue said finally there is a number of computers associated
with the dollar figure . The furniture committee will have to get
going so the budget line items can be further defined .
Ed said this is a reasonable budget, you have to define all the
pieces before it is an estimate .
Steve said from a technology standpoint, they did a fair amount
of work, but they were assumptions and that is not what this
budget is based on . He needs to know what were the assumptions
3
