he Committee reviewed the suggested additive alternatives . By law they
ave to be prioritized.
1 . Eliminate the softball , baseball and two soccer fields .
Eliminate 1 basketball and 3 tennis courts .
Eliminate the football and track stadium
his assumes the bleachers have already been eliminated .
• Eliminate another 100 parking spaces.
. Substitute VCT for carpet in 32 classrooms .
. Delete air conditioning in auditorium.
• Delete auxiliary gym.
. Delete the gym bleachers .
aul explained the Committee would like to talk about this among themselves
nd asked the architects if they would be willing to leave the room for a
hile? They said they would .
aul explained he wanted a FF&E budget from Manny Tavares by today , he said
e would have it but Paul has not heard from him. Manny said his budget is
lready $1 million over and he cut 1 /2 million from Childs' budget. FF&E
ill be over by at least $1 million . There is a big problem here .
anice said she is very frustrated . The architects knew how much money the
own had when they took they job and said yes , yes , yes they could design
it for that. Now they say it is not enough money. She will not go back to
town meeting .
Paul said he can think of 3 options :
- ask SMMA for some design changes .
- make cuts.
- go back to town meeting for more money .
Peter said they spent $900 ,000 on the land but budgeted $1 . 5 million . Isn ' t
there left over money there to be spent? The project will be closed out
before any suits are settled.
Paul reviewed the budget carefully . He determined that money is not there.
There is no extra $600 , 000 floating around.
Bill said the auxiliary gym is nice but we don 't really need it. He would
rather eliminate that.
Peter explained it is 6 , 000 sq feet, that will reduce the amount the town
gets for reimbursement for the next 20 years. The town looses on the deal .
You can build the gym for $60 sq foot but are getting $151 in reimbursement
for it.
Joe said the money can be saved in configuration of spaces.
Paul said only 3% has been appropriated for construction contingency , that
is not enough, it should be 5% .
Manny Tavares thinks FF&E will be over by $1 million, you can only fine
tune it and cut so much .
Steve thinks the auxiliary gym goes first, it is an extra.
Peter said the State realizes there is high inflation and are considering a
new reimbursement formula of $163 . 00 per sq foot.
6
