aul said he just spoke with Tom Cahir . He is not sure the legislature will
ct on that this budgetary cycle . He is also having a real problem trying
o get 75% reimbursement for Mashpee . He does not think Mashpee will get
ny relief on the reimbursement per sq foot. Paul has a letter from the
tate saying they have accepted the project, dated Nov 30 , 1994. That date
ocks the project into a reimbursement rate.
eter said in politics nothing is locked in . If the State raised it to
163 per sq foot in the next month or so, and Mashpee is allowed that rate
t would bring the budget up by $2 million . The town is only responsible
or 42 % of it. The Committee could ask that from town meeting .
eter said it seems , when the budget was put together we did not budget for
he site as much as we needed .
aul agreed , they estimated $6 per sq foot, which is $10 off . The STP was
of even calculated in .
teve said the original calculation figured 6 . 5% for inflation and that is
here we are now. The difference is in the design .
aul asked Steve what he would cut from the design?
aul said the Committee has to make a decision , ask SMMA to re-design or
gree on cuts/alternates or go back to town meeting .
teve said the second page ( alternates ) is unpalatable to him.
oe would like to see some re-design .
aul said re-design will cost the project because a 6-8 month delay with 6%
nflation rate, the cost of inflation will eat up any savings from re-
esign .
an feels the project will hit a bad bidding period if you wait ( past
arch ) .
ill thinks the Committee should seriously look at the gym, it is only a
argain if you can afford it .
oe is suggesting cutting some of the angles , curves , not re-designing the
ntire building .
anice would like to hear from Ian , who represents the Committee.
an said he would avoid a re-design . The Committee made a good decision to
ick that design . The architects have not worked hard enough to meet that
esign . He would cut the gym first.
eter said he does not want the long term quality of the project, which is
n important part of our community to suffer because a decision may be
uncomfortable in the short term. He suggested presenting to the voters a
choice . The community use items are alternates , the primary task it a
building . It is easier to add to the site than to add a building addition .
The Committee can present the town with a balanced budget, if we cut the
gym, and then tell town meeting what has been cut. If they want in back in
they have to pay for it - with additional funds. Let the town decide .
Merry Sue came to the meeting assuming there would be cuts to make . There
are a lot of finishes she could live without . As much as she believes in
the athletic facilities , the building is first. The Committee could go to
town meeting and say we can build a building but not outdoor facilities
because of inflation .
Peter said his concern is the Committee makes all of these cuts and the
7
