Paul said they were advised not to clean the room but if they plan to put
students in the building it will have to be cleaned.
Mr. Hamilton said they should not clean prior to his monitoring .
Peter said if the kids were in a classroom that then came back high (on
Wed. ) should they be moved to another room?
Mr . Hamilton said no. Clean the room and re -ample it. The kids would be
OK. The experts would not expect anyone to react to that type of fungi .
However if there is amplification there , there has to be water and it has
to be fixed or you will eventually have a toxigenic source (because of the
food chain) .
Paul explained that step 1 is whether this explanation is satisfactory to
SMMA?
Bill Hauck asked if it is satisfactory to the Board of Health.
Joel said the Building Committee needs to accept 1 of the 3 options :
- occupy the building with students and staff, do coincidental testing and
clean those room with elevated results .
- occupy only parts of the building (not first floor B & E) .
- don' t ' occupy the building at all .
The first floor of B will not be occupied anyway. The area with a problem
in E is the office next to the mechanical room where water spillage
occurred. Occuhealth went to those areas for a specific reason.
Merry Sue asked if it was a surprise to them where the high readings were
from?
They s id yes , they were surprised
rised about B.
Peter said it is the role of the Health Agent to enforce the State Health
Code . Is this type of fungi address by the state code?
Mr. Hamilton said it is not . This is something everyone is always
breathing in.
Joel said Occuhealth cannot answer a question regarding interpretation of
State regulations.
Bob Whritenour said dt is an issue of jurisdiction of the Board of Health.
He would say they do have the authority to say the building should not be
occupied.
Bill Hauck said Joel , Mr. Hamilton and Elias McQuaid have to discuss this
to make the right decision.
Joel said the findings have to be in writing first .
Mr. Hamilton will have a hard copy of the lab report to Elias McQuaid
tomorrow.
Bob Whritenour said it will be very important how this information is
conveyed. He fears people will not have a complete interpretation of the
data and the message will be the air quality testing failed.
Dr. DeMoura asked if this type of bacteria tends to be higher here on Cape
Cod than in other places in the State?
Mr. Hamilton said there are 2 areas in the Stet that have elevated levels .
The Pioneer Valley (Western Mass . ) 20% of the population there suffers from
7
