n ,
Paul said he spoke with Jim Anderson a while ago about this
space. He told him we did not want this space to be disqualified,
and it would probably be a minor amount of money to retrofit. He
said, if it is not a lot of money, he would most likely overlook
it .
Steve said he has not problem using the space for this purpose ,
he has a problem with the retrofit costs ; they are outrageous.
Paul said Stone will not do anymore pricing . We can let them
shop it out.
John Williams suggested putting a modular house on the site .
Peter said the Committee looked into that, to make it handicapped
accessible it would cost $200 ,000 .
** Vote on motion to recommend a not to exceed amount -of
$65 ,000 to the Selectmen: 4 members in favor: Paul , Joe ,
Peter and Merry Sue, 2 against, Steve and Bill .
Paul said the estimate to make changes , as requested by CCR, came
in at $307, 000. The wiring for the classrooms is $30, 000 .
Mike Kirwin said the $30 , 000 amount is perfect. He would like to
review the package and then respond.
Paul said we have to get going on the classroom piece, let the
auditorium piece go for now.
Steve asked what the $30 ,000 of additional wiring is?
Mike Kirwin explained it : infra red control lines throughout the
building. Add 2 co axial cable and 2 audio cables from the TV to
the teachers station at every teaching space. It is a long
distance, about half way across the room from TV to teaching
statio ( 30 ft at least ) .
Steve wants to take a hard look this.
Paul said we can table it but it is a risk.
Peter asked what the $300 ,000 figure includes?
Paul said they are things we needed to add from the technology
package. To turn the stage into a space good for video so it
could be used as a large TV studio .
Peter asked if this is the most cost effective way to spend
$300, 000 , it is not an educational necessity.
Paul said we have already paid SMMA and CCR to design this, now
it is time to step up to the table to pay. It should have been
questioned before . All of this is in the original $4 . 7 million
technology budget .
Mike Kirwin from CCR was present to discuss the results of the
technology bids .
Telephone system: he presented a letter to the Committee
recommending they approve and award the contract to National
Telephone. They were the lowest bid. The letter incudes an
analysis of the bids . ? means the information was not supplied.
Steve asked for their insight as to why there is such a wide
2
