spread and poor adherence to the bid documents?
Mike Kirwin said a wide spread if fairly normal in a technology
environment. Some unqualified firms enter bids . Non compliance,
some people don't understand a more complex requirement in
telecommunications .
He added because this is a public bid, anyone can pick it up and
respond.
Paul asked if they have used Win system before?
Bill , from CCR said they have. The City of Cambridge uses it .
Paul asked what their delivery and set up time frame is?
Bill said it is within a 4 week time frame .
Paul asked if we can have full dial tone by late August?
Bill said there will be no difficulty with this vendor.
Peter asked how much we had budgeted for this item?
$75-80 , 000 was budgeted.
** Paul made a motion to recommend to the Selectmen they
enter into a contract with National Telecommunications,
for the telephone system at the high school , for $54 , 000 .
Peter seconded the motion. All members were in favor 6-0 .
Audio Visual System.
Mike Kirwin stated the internal video distribution system is not
crippled by the recent change order from Griffin Electric . Those
items will enhance the system.
Steve asked to see an itemized breakdown of this bid.
HB Communications was the only firm to respond. They are not a
manufacturer, so they have independence.
Mike Kirwin and Steve Greelish discussed Steve' s concerns about
duplication of the sound system for the . auditorium.
Mr. Kirwin said any duplication is quite limited. Because the
auditorium can also be used as a video studio, there are some
duplications -microphones, headphone intercom systems . It will
be useful and justifiable for when two things are going on
simultaneously.
Steve said the auditorium is wired for audio output and
questioned why there are additional amps on top of that sound
system - there is a portable speaker system?
CCR said the sound system in the auditorium serves the audience ,
not the stage area. This will be used for the stage area, for
playback.
Because HB did not look at the electrical drawings before
submitting their bid, there is a $105 , 000 item that is not
needed.
Steve asked if we can accept the bid on a line item basis?
Mike Kirwin said the process is to accept the bid and then cut it
during the contract process .
Steve sees a fair amount of room for work on a few line items
3
