■
■
• If a student is late to school he/she must report to the office with a note from the
parent/guardian explaining the tardiness prior to going to class. ■
• Special situations will be handled individually by the classroom teachers, guidance ■
counselor or principal/principal designee.
• A student must be in attendance by 10:00am to be eligible for participation in school ■
extra-curricular events after school or in the evening.
• In cases of chronic or irregular absence, reportedly due to illness, the Principal may ■
request a physician's statement certifying that the prolonged absence is justified. ■
According to School Committee policy, any child absent for five or more consecutive
days must submit a physician's note to the office upon return to school. ■
• When excessive absences do not improve following intervention (e.g., staff phone
calls, principal letters, requested meetings) the school has the authority under the ■
Massachusetts Federal Laws to seek court action and/or DSS action.
• At the discretion of the teacher, homework and classroom work may be made up by a ■
student incurring absences. ■
• A student tardy and/or dismissed will not attain perfect attendance for the year. At
8:55am a student is tardy. Leaving school prior to 3:20pm is a dismissal. ■
• Children will be considered present for the school day as long as they have been in
attendance for at least half the day or 3.25 hours. ■
• Students cannot arrive prior to 8:40am. There is no supervision for students prior ■
to this time. Students arriving prior to 8:40am must remain outdoors until
permitted into the building by the staff on duty. Dismissal is at 3:20pm. All other ■
dismissals will be marked as an early dismissal from school and will be recorded on
the student's report card. ■
■
TARDINESS
If a child is tardy, the parent/guardian or persons designated by them must bring the child ■
to the office to check in and the child will obtain a pass for class. The parent/guardian will ■
submit or send a dated, written note stating the reason for tardiness. A PK-2 student
entering school after 8:55am is tardy. For PK afternoon session, a student entering ■
after 12:50pm is tardy. If tardy, a child cannot attain perfect attendance for the
year. ■
■
EARLY DISMISSAL ■
Parents/guardians or persons designated by them are not to pick up children in the
classroom. They must report to the school office to sign the child out. Children will ■
only be dismissed from the office, not the classroom or other school grounds.
Children will only be dismissed to the designated person with a valid driver's license. ■
Parents/guardians or designated individuals picking up a child must come into the ■
building. They must sign the appropriate log in the office and office personnel will send ■
for the child to come to the office. No child may leave the building without dismissal
from the office. ■
No child may be picked up curbside as an adult waits in a vehicle. Office personnel
cannot determine who is actually in the vehicle and who has taken the child. Therefore, ■
the adult must come into the building to ensure the safety of the child during dismissal.
■
12 ■
■
