■ The Principal will designate an administrative subordinate who will act in his/her behalf during <br /> ■ his/her absence from the school. If possible, the decision to search may be postponed until the <br /> ■ return of the Principal. <br /> ■ Searches of property made in the absence of the Principal will be authorized by the <br /> Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee. There will be no searching of persons by <br /> ■ individuals other than the Principal or his/her designee or the Superintendent or his/her <br /> designee. <br /> ■ <br /> ■ IMPORTANT NOTE: The right of inspections of students' lockers/desks is inherent in the <br /> authority granted administrators. This authority may be exercised as needed in the interest of <br /> ■ safeguarding children and school property. <br /> ■ SNACKS <br /> ■ Classroom teachers have snack daily with the children. Snack is either in the morning or <br /> ■ afternoon, per their daily schedule. Teachers will notify you in September regarding snacks in <br /> your child's classroom. <br /> ■ Some suggestions are plain popcom, soy nuts, pretzels, Wheat Thins, Triskets, yogurt, <br /> ■ applesauce, cheese slices, raisins, cherry tomatoes, cottage cheese; cut up vegetables such as <br /> carrots, celery, cucumbers, broccoli; cut up or whole fruits such as pears, raspberries, <br /> ■ strawberries, bananas, kiwis, plums, nectarines, watermelon, apples, oranges, cantaloupe, <br /> ■ peaches, grapes, cherries, blueberries; a bagel, tortilla chips, graham crackers, sunflower seeds, <br /> pumpkin seeds, lunch meat slices, granola bars, breadsticks, a muffin, comcakes and bottled <br /> ■ water. Pre-packaged snacks should be avoided as most are loaded with preservatives, sugar, <br /> sodium and carbohydrates that are not nutritionally beneficial to your child. Also, refer to <br /> ■ Wellness Policy in this handbook. <br /> ■ <br /> ■ TELEPHONES. <br /> School telephones are business phones and are not for student use except in an emergency. <br /> ■ Student cell phones are not permitted in school. <br /> ■ <br /> ■ STUDENT/LIBRARY BOOKS <br /> Books which are issued or loaned to students are the property of the Mashpee Public School <br /> ■ Department. Students are required to keep books in good condition. A student who loses or <br /> destroys a book will have to pay the replacement cost of the book. <br /> ■ <br /> ■ TRUANCY <br /> ■ Parents/guardians are required by state law to ensure their child's attendance at school. <br /> Excessive unexcused absences and/or tardiness/early dismissals may result in the administrator <br /> ■ or his/her designee filing a Child in Need of Services (CHINS) report to the court, filing with <br /> DSS and/or notification to our school's attendance officer.
