KENNETH C. COOMBS SCHOOL SCHOOL COUNCIL MINUTES Meeting of April 29, 2008 Main Office Conference Room The meeting was called to order at 3:30pm. Present were: Ms. Claudia Motta(Assistant Principal), Mrs. Palmer(Teacher Representative), Mrs. Alison Taylor(Parent Representative) Mrs. Barbara Cotton(Parent Representative) No one was present for open forum. The council members approved the minutes from the March meeting. The council members discussed the KCC School Improvement Plan (SIP) for FY09. The Council unanimously approved Goals 1-4, regarding Academic Achievement. Goal 1, 85% of KC Coombs preschool students will meet late-spring Work Sampling benchmarks with `in process' or `proficient' ratings prior to entering kindergarten. Goal 2, 85% of KC Coombs preschool student will meet late-May/early-June TROLL (Teacher Rating of Oral Language Literacy) prior to entrance into kindergarten. Goal 3, 85% of preschool students will meet end-of-the-year Reading Street benchmarks in literacy. Goal 4, Students will demonstrate DIBELS improvement to the next benchmark. • 50% of students who are at-risk will move to the some-risk or low-risk category • 25% of students in any at-risk sub-category(by ethnicity, special education,ELL, low income, Title One, regular education)will show at least 50% improvement and movement from at-risk to some-risk or low-risk in the DIBELS assessment. Goal 5, Academic Achievement 20% of below-level students in literacy will demonstrate on-level or above-level benchmarks in the Reading Street end-of-the-year assessments. School Council members amended goal 5, Academic Achievement, to read as follows: 20% of below-level students in grades K, I & 2 in literacy will demonstrate on-level or above-level benchmarks in the Reading Street end-of-the-year assessment. Council members unanimously approved the amended change to goal 5.
