For students from kindergarten to grade one, there will be opportunities to visit a grade one
classroom to get a feel for the next level. Also, a Step Up to First Grade parent night is
conducted. All kindergarten parents are invited and encouraged to attend to learn about the
grade one requirements, curriculum, instruction, etc. Grade two students will visit Quashnet
School several times before transitioning to grade three. Individuals or small groups will be
provided even more opportunities than the general class to meet their needs.
An educational parent evening will be conducted at the Quashnet School for our grade two
parents/guardians whose children will be third graders. Guidance personnel from Quashnet
School visit every grade two classroom in the spring to speak with them about their upcoming
new school. Coombs second grade staff will ensure good communication between Coombs and
Quashnet regarding our children.
SECTION VI
HEALTH (School Nurse)
The Nurse is on duty during the entire school day. Students who feel ill in the school must have
authorization from staff to visit the Nurse's Office.
Absence - When a child is absent, it is the responsibility of the parent or guardian to telephone
508-539-1526 by 8:45am to inform the school that the child will not be attending that day.
In addition to phoning in an absence, parents/guardians must send in an absentee note with the
child upon returning to school after an absence.
Emergency Card — The emergency card needs to be updated immediately if you have any
changes in your employment, home phone number, home address, cell phone number or
emergency contact persons (two local individuals).
Be aware that your emergency contact person will be contacted and responsible for your child in
the event of an injury or illness if we are not able to reach you. If the individual who comes to
school to pick up your child is not on the emergency card, but has been designated by you for
pickup, he/she will be required to produce a picture ID upon arrival to school. If no one can be
reached in the event of an emergency, 911 will be called, and your child will be transported to the
nearest hospital.
Parents/guardians will be notified, as needed, throughout the school year of occurrences of
communicable diseases. Under certain circumstances, further information will be disseminated
through the School Messenger computerized notification system.
Dismissal for illness - The Nurse will determine whether the student is not well enough to remain
in school and the parent/guardian will be contacted. Parents/guardians are required to list two
alternate names on the Emergency Procedure Cards of persons to be contacted if the
parent/guardian is unavailable.
51
