DISCIPLINE OF STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES <br /> State and federal law provide additional procedural protections for some students who are <br /> suspended from school for more than ten days in a school year. <br /> Students who are entitled to additional procedural protections are: <br /> • Students with disabilities as defined under state and federal special education laws <br /> (34CFR 300.530) <br /> • Students who have not yet been determined to be eligible for special education services, <br /> but who are in the process of identification for eligibility (34CFR 300.534) <br /> • Students who are protected under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act <br /> These students are entitled to a"manifestation determination" meeting, where <br /> parents/guardians and school personnel determine whether the conduct which might result in <br /> suspension is conduct which: <br /> • is caused by and directly related to the student's disability, or <br /> • is caused by a failure to implement the student's IEP. <br /> Alternate services must be provided to all special education students after ten days of <br /> suspension. <br /> CT 04-12-2010 <br /> SPECIAL EDUCATION PARENT ADVISORY COUNCIL (SEPAC) <br /> GOALS AND PURPOSE <br /> 1. To provide representation of all parents/guardians of children eligible to be enrolled in <br /> the Special Education Program. <br /> 2. To serve as an advocate for all children with special needs. <br /> 3. To provide a medium for parents/guardians, professionals, and citizens to exchange <br /> information, ideas, and experiences. <br /> 4. To recruit volunteer services from parents/guardians and community resources to meet <br /> identified needs. <br /> 5. To provide input into planning programs for special needs children. <br /> 6. To foster a positive attitude toward the Special Education Programs within the <br /> community and the individual school district. <br /> 7. To inform and educate the public about Special Needs plans and programs. <br /> 8. To petition for or against legislation pertaining to children with special needs. <br /> 9. To promote the coordination of existing services for children with special needs among <br /> local, state and federal agencies. <br /> NIENIBERSHIP <br /> I. Any parent/guardian whose child is involved in the Special Education Program. <br /> 2. Any interested persons who subscribe to GOALS AND PURPOSES above. <br /> MEETINGS <br /> L Meetings will be held once a month or at least four(4) times during the school year. <br /> 2. All officers will be required to attend all meetings. <br /> 3. Decisions of the membership will be made by consensus. <br /> 4. Voting shall be by ballot. <br /> 45 <br />
