l
Kids Klub
In addition, Leisure Services offers before- and after-school child care programs for children in
grades K-6. The programs meet in Mashpee Schools and are available on a first come, first serve
basis. Before-school programs start at lam and the after-school program runs until 5:30pm. For
further information, please call Mashpee Leisure Services at 508-539-1400x535.
Program cancellation: If any before- or after-school club cancels its program (ie. Leisure
Service,Boys and Girls Club,Brownies, etc.) they are responsible to notify parentstguardians.
This is not the school's responsibility. Also, it is the parent/guardian's responsibility to notify
the school of the student's alternate dismissal plans for that day.
PTO
Our Coombs School Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) exists to enhance the educational
experience of the students and to provide a forum for open communication between school and
home. Evening meetings are held monthly during the year. Parents and school staff explore how
best to support one another and to help students achieve educational goals that include social,
emotional and academic development. All parents are encouraged to join and take an active role in
our PTO. Please remember, you may join any time throughout the year or if you can make a few
meetings but not all that is fine. We'd love to have you there. Monthly family functions are planned
throughout the school year. They are family events which are great fun. Just a reminder: children
should be with adult family members and should not be left unattended.
SCHOOL COUNCIL
School Council is a body comprised of parents/guardians, staff members, the building principal and
community representative(s). Please consider running for School Council. The group meets once a
month for approximately one and one-half hours to two hours. Responsibilities include
implementation of a School Improvement Plan, overseeing the budget with the building principal, and
other matters for school discussion. These positions are through election for parents/guardians and
staff members by law. Community representatives are appointed by the building principal per School
Council regulations. Fliers will go home during the first month of school soliciting nominees for the
Council when openings are available.
Did you know that these are publicized meetings and the first twenty minutes are for Open Forum?
If you have concerns to be taken under advisement by the Council, please attend Open Forum.
PUBLIC MEETINGS
There are several public meetings, which include the Selectmen's meeting (usually held twice a month
on Mondays), the School Committee meetings (generally held on the first and third Wednesday of
each month), and the Finance Committee meeting (once a month on a Tuesday). School Committee
meetings are generally listed on our monthly school calendar, as well as televised on CH.22. The
other meetings are listed in the Mashpee Enterprise and are televised on CH. 22. All are welcomed to
attend these public meetings.
48
