COOMBS SCHOOL !II
II I SCHOOL COUNCIL MEETING
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 2007
CONFERENCE ROOM—3:30PM
MINUTES I!
II ii II i
Present: Louise Doyle, Mary Russell, Kim Palmer, Barbara Cotton, Leslie Estep
i
jAbsent: Carol Dorsky, Todd Franks I'
I
I II'
III i i,
Meeting called to order at 3:40pm j
i !
No one was present for Open Forum,
i
jCouncil reviewed January minutes.
i
i
Budget update—5.7% increase was discussed, this would involve cutting personnel and charging Ili
j user fees to meet the budget amount. Staff members are working to obtain pre kindergarten and
kindergarten grants to supplement funding.
I I
Accreditation paperwork has been submitted. Itis important that the Coombs School receive the
Quality Full Day Kindergarten Grant for the FY 08 school year. Last year the Massachusetts
Department provided$100,000 funding through the QFDK Grant. In order to maintain the current
level of academic achievement, it is imperative that we receive funding for the upcoming school
j
year. Most of the grant pays for salaries
We are waiting for our NAEYC validation visit for accreditation sometime between March and May. 11
The first three phases of the accreditation process are complete.
II I I
Gates have been purchased to secure the playground area and to prevent traffic from entering the
playground.area.
'I
At least 50% of paraprofessionals in preschool are currently CDA certified this is not the case for
kindergarten paraprofessionals. A CDA or 12 credits or equivalent are required for certification. An
Action Plan to meet NAEYC criteria has been written by Mrs. Doyle. A Title 1 school must have all
paraprofessional certified; not just the Title 1 paraprofessionals per NAEYC.
j II
Mrs. Doyle is checking to see if a KCC teacher can become an adjunct professor with a local college
to teach classes. It will require submitting a syllabus to the college so personnel can get credit. The
II course would be taught on site. Paraprofessionals qualify for a$300 reimbursement per year for II
course payment. Ili
I
It would require two years to receive 12 credits if one class was taught each semester. These classes
could include:I I
