KENNETH C. COOMBS SCHOOL <br /> SCHOOL COUNCIL MEETING <br /> WEDNESDAY, MARCH 07, 2007 <br /> CONFERENCE ROOM —3:30 pm <br /> MINUTES <br /> Present: Louise Doyle, Mary Russell, Leslie Estep, Todd Franks <br /> Absent: Carol Dorsky, Kim Palmer <br /> Meeting was called to order at 3:30 PM <br /> No one was present for Open Forum. <br /> The School Council reviewed the February meeting minutes. Todd Franks moved to <br /> accept the minutes. This was seconded by Leslie Estep. Unanimous. <br /> The FY'08 school budget was discussed. Members of the council who had attended the <br /> Town Hall meeting on Thursday, March I" at 7:00 PM shared information from that <br /> meeting. After Mrs. Joyce Mason's report to the Finance Committee, Mrs. Ann <br /> Bradshaw presented the school district's budget. It was a level funded budget with <br /> additional requests totaling $770,000 approximately. This request was to meet the <br /> District Strategic Plan and School Improvement Plans goals and objectives. During her <br /> presentation, Mrs. Bradshaw presented "A Tate of Two Towns" comparing Mashpee to <br /> Harwich. Enrollments, technology support, per pupil expenditures, etc. were discussed. <br /> Council members were also informed of KC Coombs School budget transfer requests for <br /> T.T i m r i i___� , _ r i_ <br /> ivTarcn. These transfers will be placed into genera, supplies so supplies caul be ordered <br /> for the remainder of the school year. <br /> The Universal Preschool Grant was discussed. In late February, Louise Doyle, Principal <br /> of the Coombs School applied for a Universal Preschool Grant from Early Education and <br /> Care. The grant is for$20,000 and must be used on preschool assessment to inform <br /> instruction. This is a precursor grant to a larger grant that could in a year or two support <br /> another preschool classroom. The assessment grant will support the work of an <br /> assessment committee, some technology, Work Sampling on Line for all preschoolers (a <br /> comprehensive assessment that evaluates all domains in child development), basic <br /> supplies, on line registrations for assessment, and professional development for staff. <br /> Regarding accreditation, Coombs School is in the fourth and last phase of preparation for <br /> the accreditation of preschool and kindergarten. During the month of March, a consultant <br /> will take the staff through a mock validation visit for accreditation and will meet with the <br /> principal, Louise Doyle and the early childhood coordinator, Jey Smith in preparation for <br />
