Dr. Brian Howes said this situation was just different. They have had no problems running <br /> scenarios in many other towns.They do have procedures in place. Dr. Howes <br /> explained how Mashpee was different. <br /> Presentation by Nate Weeks of Stearns & Wheler and Jerry Potamis of Falmouth on <br /> status of Falmouth Projects. <br /> Nate presented the planning area, on a map, colored by watershed. The needs <br /> assessment has been completed and he presented the key findings on a map, based <br /> on the amount of nitrogen that must be removed. In some locations, that amount is <br /> 100%. <br /> The alternative screening analysis produced 3 scenarios. A map of where those 3 <br /> scenarios would be located was presented as well as the existing wastewater <br /> treatment facilities. <br /> A map of possible re-charge areas was presented with Zone II's and groundwater <br /> protection areas over laid. Three sites were most favorable, Falmouth County Club, <br /> existing plant site and a private site. It has been determined that the Country Club site <br /> is the best for re-charge. <br /> A hydraulic load test was done and DEP reviewed the work. They expressed some <br /> concern about no long term operating data with treated water so they reduced the <br /> hydraulic loading rate. <br /> Technical evaluations are ongoing for well injection, nitrogen budget and discussion <br /> with MMR. <br /> Non wastewater management solutions are recommended as well including: <br /> fertilization management, storm water management, increased tidal flushing. <br /> The next newsletter will be inserted into the December 26th edition of the Falmouth <br /> Enterprise. <br /> Tom asked if Falmouth's CWMP is addressing a portion of Mashpee? <br /> Nate says it does, but Falmouth cannot advise Mashpee how to meet their TMDLs. Just <br /> make each other aware of what the other towns is doing and bring the 2 projects <br /> together. <br /> Tom asked if they have done any initial costing of the MMR approach? Wastewater <br /> would have to be piped in two directions : to and from the Country Club. How does <br /> that look like the better alternative? <br /> Nate said they have looked at the cost of piping both ways. Conventional water <br /> transmission, as compared to building several treatment plants with all the siting <br /> considerations, is cost effective. <br />
