i <br /> TOWN OF MASHPEE <br /> PROPOSED 1992-1993 SCALLOP REGULATIONS <br /> Mashpee Shellfish Regulations <br /> Article 5, Section 3 - Mashpee Scallop Regulations <br /> All Mashpee Shellfish Regulations are in effect unless <br /> superseded by one of the following: <br /> 1) Season - All waters of the town of Mashpee except those <br /> areas classified as "closed to all shellfishing" will be <br /> open for the taking of scallops from sunrise on Thursday, <br /> October 1, 1992 to sunset on March 31, 1993. <br /> 2) All waters of the Town of Mashpee except those areas <br /> classified as "closed to all shellfishing" will be open to <br /> the taking of scallops to both commercial and non-commercial <br /> permit holders. Private shellfish grant areas will be open <br /> for commercial and non-commercial taking of scallops by hand <br /> or di net only, <br /> p y, so as not to disturb the aquaculture gear or ' <br /> cultured shellfish. <br /> 3) Scallops can be taken on non-commercial <br /> permits seven <br /> days a week. Scallops can be taken on commercial permits <br /> six days a week from sunrise on Monday to sunset on <br /> Saturday. <br /> 4) All scallops are to be landed in the shell. Shucking <br /> scallops or possession of shucked scallops meats before <br /> coming ashore is PROHIBITED. <br /> 5) Seed - Takingor <br /> possession of seed scallops is � <br /> PROHIBITED. A seed scallop is defined as one that lacks a <br /> well-defined annual growth ring, regardless of the size or <br /> weight of the individual scallop. I '; <br /> 6) Catch limits - Non-commercial permit holders are allowed <br /> to take up to one bushel of scallops per week. <br /> Commercial permit holders are allowed to take up to ten ' <br /> bushels of scallops per day. Commercial permit holders also <br /> holdingnon-commercial C . <br /> permits are allowed to take up to ten <br /> bushels per day Monday through Saturday, and one bushel on I <br /> Sunday. <br /> A bushel of scallops is defined as equal to four pecks, or <br /> forty quarts dry measure. A standard five gallon plastic <br /> bucket equals twenty quarts, or one-half bushel. <br /> 7) Harvest methods - From October 1 through March 31 l <br /> scallops may be taken by hand, dipnet or rake. <br /> ;Yj11 <br /> i <br />
