QUASHNET VALLEY COUNTRY CLUB <br /> I . " INTRODUCTION <br /> A. Location: The 345:2 acre site of the Quashnet Valley Country Club is <br /> located in Mashpee, 1/4 mile north of the Pine Tree Corner Rotary and <br /> west of Waquoit Rd. It is divided into three parcels by Lowell Rd. , <br /> Old Falmouth Rd. - Barnstable Rd. <br /> B. Existing Site Characteristics: The land is currently undeveloped. There <br /> is a low intensity of use in the general area except for a cluster of <br /> commercial development at the Pine Tree Corner Rotary on Rt. 28, immediate- <br /> ly to the south of the site, as shown on the U.S.G.S. Map of the Cotuit <br /> Quadrangle. <br /> The site lies on the Mashpee glacial outwash plain and consists of both <br /> the higher sandy glacial outwash plain and several broad glacial valleys <br /> which have been converted to cranberry bogs. The upland areas consist <br /> of medium to fine glacial sands while bogs and low areas are generally <br /> courser sands overlain by a sand/peat stratum 12" - 18" deep. The water <br /> table stands at an elevation of 2 - 3 feet below the cranberry bogs. <br /> The upland areas are generally forested with pitch, pine and scrub oak <br /> undergrowth. The low areas support red maple, Atlantic white cedar and <br /> blueberries where cranberries have not been developed. <br /> Lowlands on the site are not naturally subject to flooding, since Quashnet <br /> River has to be dammed to a 3 - 4 foot height for flooding related to <br /> cranberry growing. Even this year, which has had an unusually high <br /> water table and water level in John's Pond, the bog areas have remained <br />
