• MASHPEE BOARD OF APPEALS
Minutes
March 28, 1990
The Mashpee Board of Appeals held a meeting .at 7:34 p.m. on
Wednesday, March 28,1990 at the Mashpee Town Hall. Board members
present and acting throughout were Cheryl A. Hawver, Rf.chard E.
Halpern, William J. Hanrahan and John J. Friel. Michael A.
Makunas arrived at 7:45 p.m. Building Inspector Douglas S. Boyd
was in attendance.
Summerfield Park Realty Trust - Requests a Special Permit under
Section 174,755.I of the Zoning By-laws for permission to change the
signage in an I-1 zoning district on property located at 101A -201A
Falmouth Road, (Map 88, Block2, Lots 101A to 201A) MaHh,ee, MA.
Members present: C. Hawver, J. Friel, R. Halpern, W. Hanrahan
Attorney Winn Davis represented the applicant K_ -van Andrade
the principle in Summerfield Park Realty Trust. Mr. Andrade was
before the Board several years ago when he filed originally for
Summerfield Park. Copies of the plan were presented to the Board
showing signs originally proposed. Mr. Davis explained that at
this time it was a legally sized sign. The Board did approve this
Special Permit. Three buildings have been since built. The zoning
by-laws have changed which would reduce the size of a prestanding
sign. The sign they seek now does conform with the present size
requirements under 10.6.9 of the zoning by-laws of the Town of
Mashpee. They have a group of 30 or more business buildings. They
are built in a park management. They have a large amount of smaller
businesses --in the back building that do not get the visibilty from
the road. This sign would allow the opportunity to identify the
businesses in the back. It will be a setback of 25' as required
and will not exceed an 80' area.
A letter from the Town Clerk has been submitted in which she
has voiced her support.
David Hendricks, a resc*dent of Summerfield Park stated that
people do mistake them for Deer Crossing.
Mr. and Mrs David Smith, owners of two small businesses, stated
that the problem they have is the visibility.
Doug Boyd stated that they are allowed 80•square feet. It is
a village mall plaza r. zoning. The setback is 50'. There are
variances in the area. The zoning says you. are allowed one si-n
per access. He has a sign on his access wha:ch only says Summerfield
. Park. Mr. Boyd suggested that if he is willing to give that up
