I <br /> i <br /> I <br /> i <br /> Section 4.10.4 Access to Town Highway. The fundamental objective of this section <br /> its three f Id: <br /> i <br /> 1. To provide maximum protection to the public through the orderly I <br /> control of traffic moving onto and from a highway. <br /> 2. To provide a uniform practice in the design and construction <br /> of entrances and exits. <br /> 3. To provide the necessary drainage. <br /> I I <br /> a. Any owner of property abutting town highways shall, before <br /> beginning any construction, make written application to the <br /> Director of Public Works on a form approved by him. <br /> b. Any owner of abutting property desiring to gain access to a <br /> town highway shall do so only a strict accordance with the pro- <br /> I <br /> visions of a permit issued by the Director. <br /> c. The following requirements are applicable to all commercial <br /> and industrial establishn ents, service areas and private residences <br /> having access to and/or through the right-of-way of a town highway, <br /> insofar as the requirements for drainage, geometric design, signing, <br /> type and quality of workmanship, material used, and the work <br /> performed in the areas providing ingress and egress to said property <br /> are concerned. <br /> d. The owner of any commercial and/or industrial establishment, f <br /> service areas and private residents abutting a town highway or <br /> right of way who desire to gain access to a town highway or right <br /> of way shall do so only after a written permit has been issued <br /> by the Director of Public Works. The Director of Public Works <br /> shall examine the proposed access with reference to drainage, <br /> design, type and quality of workmanship, material to be used and <br /> the work to be performed in the area providing ingress and egress <br /> to and from the town highway or right of way so as to provide f <br /> maximum protection to the public through the orderly control of <br /> traffic moving onto and from the town highway and to provide a <br /> uniform practice in the design and construction of entrances and I <br /> exits and to provide necessary drainage. <br /> (Article 4.10 amended at Annual Town Meeting May 7, 1984 and <br /> approved by Attorney General September 17, 1984. ) <br /> i <br /> -33- <br />
