SECTION 12 : APPEALS AND BOARD OF APPEALS <br /> 12 . 1 There shall be a Board of Appeals as provided for <br /> by the Massachusetts General Laws consisting of <br /> three members . The Board of Selectmen shall <br /> appoint the members annually to a term commencing <br /> July 1st . The members shall be appointed for a <br /> term of three years with the term of one member to <br /> expire each year . The Board of Selectmen may <br /> appoint up to six associate members for similar <br /> terms in the same manner . Vacancies shall be <br /> filled for unexpired terms in the same manner as <br /> in case of original appointments . <br /> 12 .2 The Board of Appeals shall organize annually at <br /> the meeting next following July 1st by the <br /> election of a chairman and a clerk from within its <br /> own membership , and may , subject to appropriation , <br /> employ experts and clerical and other assistants . <br /> 12 . 3 The Chairman of the Board of Appeals may designate <br /> any associate member to sit on the board in case <br /> of absence , inability to act or conflict of <br /> interest on the part of any member thereof or in <br /> the event of a vacancy on the board until said <br /> vacancy is filled by action of the Board of <br /> Selectmen . <br /> 12 .4 Any member or associate member of the Board, of <br /> Appeals may be removed for cause by the Board <br /> of Selectmen—but unly after written charges have <br /> been made and delivered to the member and a public <br /> hearing has been held . <br /> 12 . 5 The Board of Appeals shall have and exercise the <br /> powers specifically granted by the General Laws <br /> of the Commonwealth and those powers granted in <br /> this Zoning By-Law which are not inconsistent <br /> with the aforesaid General Laws . <br /> i <br /> I ' <br /> `2 - " <br /> I <br />
