Debbie G. - kids may feel intimidated - when all their <br /> friends are leaving and may rush to leave and skip lunch <br /> Bob T. - said it is being addressed and worked on. <br /> Slush came up here as an equality issue . <br /> Mary M. - extra curricular activities and teacher <br /> concerns brought up - no tag football or volleyball due <br /> to Leisure Service control now - not school . <br /> Carol R. brought up Kids Club - <br /> Kathy Lynch said - Leisure Services loses money due to <br /> shack. <br /> Donna M. mentioned safety - doors have been seen wide <br /> open during the day - unsafe . <br /> Bob T. states that a sign-out book will soon be outside <br /> the cafe . <br /> Kathy Lynch - parents are walking in wrong door. <br /> Anybody can walk in and get access thru entire school w/ <br /> out being seen - this is a problem. <br /> Bob T. - it is being addressed. <br /> Mike Persico - speaks about the positive aspects of <br /> School Councils . School Councils will insure a more <br /> efficient way to run schools - will insure how schools <br /> spend money - programs can be funded - will insure that <br /> the spirit of the Ed Reform Law is being followed. <br /> Schools are being governed differently - teachers are <br /> given an equal chance at deciding how things are done . <br /> The bottom line has always been the dollar. We should <br /> not be penny-wise/dollar-foolish. Our suggestions will <br /> be noticed as to what is best for our kids - not what <br /> can we afford - we will have more say on how money is <br /> being spent. we must take the philosophical high-ground <br /> Bob T. said - the spirit of the law is mentioned several <br /> times in the handbook. <br /> Donna M. asks - will there be competition between <br /> schools for funding. <br /> Bob - each school comes up with priorities which happens <br /> within classes . <br /> Carol R. - enrichment activities - None - no gifted <br /> programs . <br /> Mike Persico - our most desperate need is staffing. <br /> Specials are on a 6 day cycle due to staffing. P . E . and <br /> specials are just as important as reading, writing, <br /> arithmetic - it' s a moral issue - Art teacher has over <br /> 700 kids . <br /> Mary asks - with the 1996 split - will there be special <br /> teachers hired to cover each school? <br /> Bob T. answered - no. <br /> I Debby - then what is the benefit of dividing up into two <br /> schools? <br /> Bob T. answered that it will be easier for him if the <br /> schools are divided.
