Page 3
superintendent stated that State funding would be cancelled. Ms.
King disagreed and stated that State funding would be delayed, but
not cancelled. Dr. DeMoura said that it would not be a good
situation if Mashpee had to house ninth graders without the high
school. Chairman Mills mentioned that Town Counsel had been
contacted regarding what could be done if the school did not open
on time. Alec Watt asked if there would be penalties charged the
architects if the school was not completed on time? He wanted to
know if there were any such clauses in the contract? Dr. DeMoura
felt that the school would be complete by July.
Mr. Golub felt another meeting sometime soon would be helpful to
discuss the high school budget. Ms. Mills felt that the high
school principal should also be included in that discussion.
In regard to costs per grade she asked if Dr. DeMoura was
projecting $1,7 million for one grade? He answered yes according
to his draft and early projections. Mr. Golub felt that a good
approach would be to isolate items that are an absolute must and
items that are variables to discuss. Ms. Mills stated that certain
staff members would be expensive early on due to their being
department heads. Mr. Goggin asked what the initial expense vs.
ongoing costs would be?
There was a question regarding up and coming contract negotiations.
It was asked whether or not a Finance Committee member could attend
negotiations? Chairman Mills did not see anything wrong with this.
Ms. King stated that they would vote at the next meeting to
nominate a Finance Committee member to attend contract negotiations
as an advisor only.
Dr. DeMoura stated that he would like to wait until after the
October Town Meeting to meet again. This was acceptable to all in
attendance.
The meeting adjourned at 8:30PM. The next scheduled meeting is on
Tuesday, September 5, 1995 at 7:OOPM. Minutes respectfully
submitted by Jean M. Mooney, Board Secretary.
