He
stated that residents voted to build the high school.
Mr. Golub inquired about the poor test grades received by eighth
graders in the Mashpee School System. Mr. Golub handed out a
School District Profile for the Town of Mashpee. Dr. DeMoura's
response to Mr. Golub was that the Mashpee Schools do not have
children for very long. Half, he explained, move here from other
towns. Mr. Golub asked if there was something that could be done?
Dr. DeMoura felt that much could be accomplished with the opening
of Mashpee High School . He also explained that the State is
working on giving Superintendents test scores on individuals,
rather than by grade. Ms. Mills also stated that teachers are
being assessed by test grades and under certain circumstances
things cannot be blamed on the teacher.
Again, Dr. DeMoura explained that this was only a foundation, a
starting point. Mr. Goggin stated that he felt the Superintendent
did an excellent job putting this report together. Mr. Goggin felt
it gave a different view and it is important for the Finance
Committee to see these numbers. Dr. DeMoura stated that this is
only a draft. Ms. Mills stated that the School Board
is not in much of a position to do much about the construction
being behind, but felt confident that the ninth graders could be
absorbed if need be. Dr. DeMoura indicated that the decision was
made to bring the ninth graders to Mashpee. Mr. Golub asked if
they also considered taking the tenth graders back? Mr. Consalvi
stated that there could be problems if that occurred with funding.
Mr. Consalvi felt if school choice was pursued then Mashpee could
lose out.
Dr. DeMoura felt that the school would open on time and was
planning accordingly.
