Mr. Goggin felt that the Finance Committee should also
research this.
Mr. Goggin asked if there were any optional items in the FY97
budget? Dr. DeMoura indicated that some positions are very
important. They are considering a Network Administrator. They are
looking for experienced teachers. Dr. DeMoura answered that there were not too
many other start up costs except for people.
Ms. King asked about possibly having a joint meeting again in
February.
Deirdre Greelish, who was seated in the room, asked when the
discussion of curriculum would be discussed. Dr. DeMoura answered
that the four academic teachers need to be hired first. They will
be as of July 1st and 9th grade curriculum can be created. The School Committee will approve graduation
requirements. He said that they also have a very good idea what
will be offered to students for course titles. Ms. Greelish said
that there will only be 110 students in the ninth grade. Mr.
Williams said that they have kept the number of course electives
low.
The joint meeting adjourned at 8:10PM.
Capital Improvement Committee
Mr. Golub explained that the Committee is looking for a number from
which they can start. Free Cash will not be an issue. Mr. Golub
explained that he would, however, support an increase in the
Capital budget with a decrease in the Operational budget. He felt
that he would stick with the numbers outlined in the Long Range
Plan. He said that 11$700,000 or $800,000 in capital requests would
have to fit into a $200,000 socket" .
