5 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> December 18, 2000 <br /> i <br /> COMMUNICATIONS AND CORRESPONDENCE: <br /> Correspondence—Barnstable Municipal Airport: <br /> Correspondence was received from Representative Thomas George dated <br /> November 28, 2000 regarding the feasibility and impact of relocating the <br /> Barnstable Municipal Airport. <br /> Proposed legislation would investigate and study the feasibility of creating <br /> a commercial and/or regional airport at Otis AFB sufficient to address the <br /> present and future needs of Barnstable County, and to replace the existing <br /> Barnstable Municipal Airport. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Cahalane to send a firm letter in strong <br /> opposition to the study of the relocation and/or future use of the <br /> MMR as an airport to applicable legislative leaders, the Cape Cod <br /> Commission and boards of selectmen in the surrounding Cape towns. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Green. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0. <br /> NEW BUSINESS: <br /> Request for Approval for Grant Application—Fire Department: <br /> Fire Chief George Baker requested the Board's permission to apply for a <br /> grant from the Massachusetts Firefighter Safety Equipment Program for <br /> the purchase of firefighter safety equipment. The one-time grant,of up to <br /> $20,819 does not require any matching funds or future financial <br /> commitment to participate. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Cahalane to approve the request of the <br /> Fire Department to apply for grant funds as presented. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Taylor. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0. <br />
