6 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> December 18, 2000 <br /> COMMUNICATIONS AND CORRESPONDENCE: <br /> Correspondence—U.S. Census Bureau: <br /> Correspondence was received from the U.S. Census Bureau dated <br /> November, 2000 in appreciation for the Town of Mashpee's outstanding <br /> efforts to make Census 2000 a success. The memorandum will be <br /> forwarded to the Office of the Town Clerk. <br /> NEW BUSINESS: <br /> Skateboard Park Conditions: <br /> Gus Frederick, the Leisure Services Director was present to discuss the <br /> conditions in and surrounding the skateboard park with the Board of <br /> Selectmen in response to a memorandum received from a concerned <br /> resident regarding cleanliness of the area and enforcement of skateboard <br /> regulations. <br /> Mr. Frederick indicated that his department has employed the services of a <br /> part-time individual to assist with the clean up process. The local Girl <br /> Scouts and staff of the Leisure Services Department have also assisted to <br /> improve the overall cleanliness of the area surrounding the park. In <br /> addition, the Chief of Police has agreed to increase patrols in the area. <br /> Mr. Frederick recommended the Board consider the closure of the park <br /> during the months of January and February. An ad hoc task force will be <br /> reviewing the options for the winter months to ensure proper supervision <br /> and maintain a clean facility. Liability issues were also considered. Two <br /> Selectmen members offered to meet with the youth to discuss the <br /> responsibility and care of the facility. The Boys and Girls Club will also <br /> be contacted with regards to this matter. <br />
