6
Board of Selectmen
Minutes
January 23, 2017
APPOINTMENTS & HEARINGS
Discussion of Transfer Station Contract:
At the request of the Board of Selectmen, the Town solicited bids for the operation of the
Transfer Station. One bid was received from the current contractor, Gotta Do Contracting, LLC.
The bid result was higher than budgeted. It was noted the contract is due to expire on July 1,
2017. However, the FY18 Transfer Station budget was submitted on September 30th, and for
budgeting purposes, a 2.5%increase was assumed for operational and hauling costs.
It was disclosed that potential options to reduce cost assumptions were vetted. Correspondence
from the DPW Director dated January 19, 2017 outlined some of the options under
consideration. It was recommended the Selectmen evaluate the proposals, and revisit this matter
at the next Board Meeting. It was agreed the prior analysis would be considered as well as
information and insights regarding changes that have been implemented previously. Comparison
figures regarding tonnage, recyclables and solid waste over the past year would also be
considered at the February meeting.
COMMUNICATIONS & CORRESPONDENCE
Correspondence relative to the proposed Great River Oyster Company oyster farm:
The Board of Selectmen was in receipt of several letters regarding the proposed Great River
Oyster Company oyster farm. Included in the Selectmen's informational review packet was
correspondence from Donald Barton dated January 17, 2017 in concern with respect to
implications regarding the approval of commercial oyster farming grants on Great River. An
additional letter was received from John Wilson dated January 18, 2017 in opposition to the
proposed site location. A letter of support was received from Roderick St. Pierre dated January
6, 2017.
It was disclosed the Board of Selectmen have not formally heard the proposal relative to a
commercial farming enterprise. Therefore, there was no action required of the Board of
Selectmen at this time.
