Joe Brait,yes. Scott McGee,yes.
Old Business
Update.on MSBA Accelerated Repair Pro am window/roof project at S
Catherine Laurent reported that the Subcommittee is recommending a rubber membrane roof
with EFTS soffit. The Subcommittee did review all the information regarding warranty, cost, etc.
but they did not feel that would justify the higher cost for other materials. Catherine stated that
the new EFIS systems are much improved over what is currently at the school. Catherine said
there is a limited selection of color. Steve Cook noted that aluminum and phenol finishes may
have more colors, but they would fade over time.
Catherine said the Design Team is moving forward with finalizing the schematic design plans
and the cost estimate based on those directions; a joint meeting with the three boards (Board of
Selectmen/School Committee/Finance Committee) is scheduled for March b. The MSBA
application would be submitted by March 15. Steve said the preliminary design/construction
costs for the new roof; EFIS soffit; windows and doors total $11.28-Million.
Catherine said the Design Team and the Project Manager will each have an estimator prepare an
estimate of costs; the Subcommittee will compare the two estimates and then a decision will be
made as to which estimate is to be submitted to MSBA. Catherine cautioned that if something
arises during construction that would increase the cost above the estimate, the Town would be
totally responsible for the increased cost. Therefore, the Subcommittee will have to take that
into consideration. Catherine said also the estimates will take into consideration that
construction will be in 2018 so costs for labor, materials, etc. would increase.
Joe Brait asked about the contemplated timeframe for construction. Catherine said construction
timeframe would be 4-6months. She said before going out to bid there would have to be a
meeting with School Department to work out scheduling. She pointed out that if construction
had to be done at night or weekends, that would add to costs.
