J 16 Great Neck Roar' North Mushpee, Massachusetts 02649 TV; - e - i`.5, 55 3 1 MASEPEE HISTORICAL COMMISSION Minutes of Meeting -- September 3, 2015 The meeting of the Mashpee Historical Commission was moved from gam to loam due to Chairman's tardy posting of notice on Tuesday, September 1. When a quorum was attained the Town of Mashpee Historical Commission meeting was called to order in the Archives at 10:05 am by Nancy Soderberg, Chairperson. Commissioners Present: Ava Costello, Brian Hyde, Frank Lord, and Nancy Soderberg. Commissioners not Present: Rosemary Burns Love, Gordon Peters, and Joan Tavares -Avant. Guests Present: Deborah Dami, Mashpee Town Clerk; Kathleen Mahoney, Library Director; and Sam Houghton, reporter from the Mashpee Enterprise. Town Manager, Rodney Collins visited briefly after the meeting was called to order with information for the Commissioners. Before the meeting was called to order Deborah Dami and Kathleen Mahoney were provided a tour of our newly renovated facilities. Town Manager Collins is extremely interested in helping to meet the needs of the building — not just the renovations that have been completed, but bringing the building up to the necessary standards of an Archive. One of our main problems has been temporarily solved by running a dehumidifier in the basement which is controlling the humidity somewhat. We will need to handle that problem professionally, so more needs to be done. Because of limited time, Commissioners immediately requested Kathleen Mahoney prepare a proposal to the State Archives and Mass. Board of Library Commissioners to fund additional time with state roving archivist Rachel Onuf to facilitate the organization of our collections in a secure archival environment in our new building. When Mr. Collins arrived he assured the Commissioners that he would arrange for Rosemary's request to establish a revolving account for proceeds from the sale of her book, which was approved by the selectmen, be added to the town warrant for the October town meeting. He also indicated he would submit a second article for funding for furnishings for the Archives including shelving that would be included on the same warrant. He then made a donation to the Commission. Rosemary has worked on setting up a revolving account dedicated to historical preservation into which funds received for the sale of her new book — Mashpee in Words and Pictures will be allocated. She notified the Selectmen, and requested that an article be placed on the up -coming Town Warrant, to be held on October 19, 2015. After the approval by the Town, all funds from the sale of the book can be designated to that account. Rodney Collins was very supportive.
