i
Septic
, As previously mentioned, we spent quite a bit of time trying to find a way to connect to the high school
waste water treatment system. Unfortunately, their operating payment requirements 1 I/yr ++ are
out of reach for a project of this size, so we've moved onto a system of our own. The town`s 10 parts per
million requirement for nitrogen means that we need to purchase a fairly expensive system, Nitrex, but in
the tong terra the operating costs are dramatically lower ($151 first year, $10K second year, 7K onward)
than connoting to the torn. we will be talking to the public housing arra of DHCD to find some funds to
help pay capital costs, since we will be including the existing units in our system.
Additionally, we determined even before we submitted our response to the FTP that there was
calculation error for allowable bedrooms on the site, but were optimistic that we could work with DEP to
resolve the issue. Unfortunately, solutions that DEP has accepted in the past are no longer allowed. As a
result, using standard procedures, DEP will not allow the number of bedrooms we are hoping for on the
site without some offsite mitigation. Informal discussions with the town planner give us optimism that it
will be an easy problem to solve by putting a nitrogen loading easement on a small nearby bit of land
(about an acre) and we are beginning those conversations more formally. However, it is possible that it
may require a town meeting vote, something we are hoping to avoid.
