F
Water Quality Monitoring
It was noted that MEC performed sampling in addition to Mr. York's water monitoring programs with
Mashpee, the Tribe and SMaST.
AE COM
Mr. Baker referenced the report and its suggestion that none of the proposed remediation would be
100% effective at fixing the problem without addressing their list of items that would improve the odds
of success, including runoff, cranberry bog phosphorus management, fertilizer and stormwater efforts.
A review of those items would be necessary and a determination made about how they will be
addressed.
Estuary Restoration/Shellfish Propagation
Mr. York reported that he was moving forward with the quahog project in Great River/Little
River/Jehu Pond/Hamblin Pond area and that a request for increased funding for propagation monies
would be considered at Town Meeting. Mr. York reported that he planned to grow an extra 2 million
quahog seed in order to reduce nitrogen in the area. Harvest of the quahogs would be expected in a
couple of years. Mr. York noted that the increase would go toward commercial harvesting which
could be tracked.
DISCUSSION
Mr. Baker suggested that future discussion should be considered regarding the Cape Cod Water
Protection Collaborative and the National Academy of Sciences review of the applicability of the
SMaST model. Mr. Theis noted that it would be difficult to commit funds without a peer review. Mr.
Petersen added that due diligence was needed and was unclear why DEP would be resistant to a
review, particularly as residents paid for the study. There was also discussion about an outstanding
payment of$8,000 to SMaST.
MEETING ADJOURNMENT
Mr. Barer made a motion to adjourn the meeting. The motion was seconded by Mr. Theis. The
meeting adjourned at 8:34 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Jennifer M. Cl ord
Board Secretary
LIST OF DOCUMENTS
-Notes from Girl Scout Troop 818111
6
