Fire Station Building Committee <br /> minutes 2 <br /> January 8., 1998 <br /> REMRT OF THF-AECJHTECT <br /> Margaret Kundert and Tadhg Sweeney were present to discuss the <br /> initial schematic design of the Fire and Rescue Station renovation project <br /> with members of the Fire Station Building Committee. <br /> The design as proposed by Donham & Sweeney is similar to the original <br /> schematic presented in the feasibility study. It has been re-designed to <br /> phase construction activities in an effort to alleviate disruption of Fire <br /> Department operations. (enclosed) <br /> In addition to design schematics,Ms. Kundert presented a model of the <br /> proposal to the Committee for consideration. A new administrative building <br /> is configured in Phase 1 of the construction process. Three levels were <br /> presented and depicted in the design review of this phase. The schematic <br /> reflects an additional 500 square feet to the project scope. <br /> The first floor of the new facility is proposed to house the Fire Chief,Deputy <br /> Fire Chief, and secretarial staff. A conference room and public meeting and <br /> trairng room is also provided in the initial schematic design. The lobby area <br /> of the first floor of the new facility offers accessibility to the public for <br /> community functions, and will be constructed of glass material to allover for <br /> additional light and circulation into the building. <br /> The second floor ofhase l is intended to house lieutenants and firefighters. <br /> Kitchen and dining facilities are offered in addition to sleeping quarters, <br /> laundry and day room functions. <br /> The basement of this unit is presently designed for fitness activities and storage. <br /> The systems boiler and electrical units iIl also be contained in the lover level. <br /> Discussion followed with regards to the configuration of the initial design. <br /> Handicap accessibility, and the need to have direct access to the dining <br /> facilities and building amenities such as fitness was further reviewed. <br /> It is the consensus of the Committee to include an elevator in the initial design <br /> of the Fire and Rescue Station. It was noted that the sum of$10,000 is <br /> included in the budget for the elevator shaft. The estimated cost for an <br /> elevator is $70,000 or approximately$15,000 per stop. <br />
