Fire Station Building Committee <br /> Minutes <br /> January 8, 1998 <br /> RE2DRT OF TRC. TELT <br /> Demolition would occur in Phase 11 to eliminate the administrative wing <br /> of the present facility. The new apparatus bay would be constructed. <br /> Fire Department decontamination areas vll be constructed for disinfection and <br /> turn out gear operations. The watch room is placed in the front area of the <br /> new building for adequate visibility. <br /> Methods to reduce the square footage of the building was discussed. If the <br /> basement were eliminated from the design, the boiler and elect cal room <br /> could be placed on the first floor. The fitness facility could be placed in the <br /> attic room above the watch room and turn out gear area. <br /> Chief Baker suggested the Committee allow the Fire Department staff to <br /> review the design proposal and flow of the new building as presented. The <br /> architect was directed by the Committee to present the design proposal t <br /> to the Fire Department staff. A tentative meeting is scheduled on Thursday, <br /> January 15, 199 with the Fire Department at 9:00 a.m. Mr. Thomas and <br /> Mr. wezniak will attend the presentation with Chief Baker and Deputy r Hamblin. <br /> Exterior site conditions were reviewed. It is the consensus of the Committee <br /> to support the design of fifty parking spaces. Thirty for the general public, <br /> and twenty for employees. fir. Sweeney was requested to discuss this <br /> matter with the Building Inspector t meet code requi <br /> rements. <br /> It was noted that the roof of the existing building is expected to be replaced. <br /> All existing doors v ill be replaced with new glass doors. Mr. Sweeney indicated <br /> that the existing portion of the building will have limited options for exterior site , <br /> treatments. He recommended the Committee consider the use of block material <br /> as interior surface to be combined With wood exterior shingles. Chief Baker <br /> suggested the architect consider low maintenance treatments and related concern <br /> with regards to the use of wood exterior site treatments. <br /> Exterior site septic and leaching fields were discussed. It was noted that <br /> gray water from the apparatus and turn out gear should be treated separate <br /> from septic. Discussion followed with regards to the designation and design <br /> of an apparatus bay with ample drainage for use as an interior wash bay. <br />
