Fire Station Building Committee
mutes
April 23, 1998
REPORLOF TBE ARCHMC`:
Cost Estimates per square foot:
Phase 1 $250 per square foot
Phase H $150 per square foot
Basement 75 per square foot
Mr. Sweeney indicated that a price o $160 per square foot is a more
reasonable figure. It was noted that the Fitchburg Fire Station was estimated
to cost $160 per square foot. The building is all new construction, and the
ratio of open space is larger. It is scheduled for construction in June. The
above preliminary cost estimates as provided anticipate the bid process to
begin in November, 199 8.
Discussion followed with regards to the initial cost estimate as provided,
and options to reduce glass, flooring, masonry and general construction
material. Mr. Sweeney suggested that he focus on the schematic estimate
with Fogarty to review possible errors in assumption. Further insight may
assist with a more accurate cost estimate. Mr. Sweeney recommended to
consider additional drawings and elevations to assist with cost estimation figures.
It is the consensus of the Committee to meet with members of the Board of
Selectmen after Town Meeting and the general election process to obtain consent
and direction with respect to this regard before any further action is taken.
SOUTH MSI- SLM-STATLQhj LOCATION-. -
The sub-committee of the Fire Station Building Committee met on two
occasions to review potential site locations for a future sub-station to be
located in South Mashpe.
De diligence depicted the Keter property located on Red Brook Road
as the most suitable location. The propel is owned by the Town, and
would present minimum conflict with traffic and existing properties.
Meeting adjourned: 10-55 a. .
Respectfully submitted,
YV"' AAU
Kathleen M. Soares -Board Secretary
