Fire Station Building Committee Minutes .lune 15, 199 FIRE STATION PROJECTaDATE: Selectman Reveille, Selectman Marsters and Robert Whrite our,Executive Secretary attended the meeting to review the Fire and Rescue Station project with members of the Fire Station Building Committee and Project Architect, Tadgh Sweeney, of Donham & Sweeney, Inc. of Cam e. Mr. Vaccaro indicated that he attended the Seleetr en"s Meeting last week with Chief Baler to discuss estimated cost scenanVos relative to the renovation oft the mala Fire and Rescue Station, and related future sub-station to be located in South Mashpee. Cost estimates to expand the existing main station and build a smaller satellite station have been estimated to cost $4.1 million respectively. The budget estimate to renovate the existing station is approximately million. The basement option is estimated to cost an additional $250,000, The construction of a sub-station is estimated to cost 'l.I million. Funds to address landscape, and the relocation of the entrance road are not contained in the budget estimate. Mr. Vaccaro indicated that Mashpee Commons s is expected to relocate and re-pave Job's Fishing Road for proper aliment. The interior rotary should be reconfigured for easy access, and to prevent interference with public safety vehicles. It was noted that the future Boys and Girls Club may also access their site from the Route 151 site location. The first preference of the committee is to renovate the existing main station informed Chairman Vaccaro. The flow of the building is not efficient,, and the main station lacks proper space to store protective equipment added Fire Chief George Baker. In addition,there are no locker room facilities for the distaff members of the Fire Department.t. The station is also overcrowded for its present staffing. At a minimum, it is necessary to repair the ventilation system, replace the overhead doors'. address life safety issues, and the termite infestation at the existing main station informed Mr. Vaccaro. Cost estimates for the above ' amount to $217,000. It was rioted that the May 1998 Town Meeting approved the expenditure of$3 1,000 to the fire Air Quality Account to fund the installation of a vehicle emissions exhaust system which can be re-used during the planned station renovation and applied to the above cost estimate.
