Mashpee Public Library
Director's Report
September 2011
Circulation for the month of August 2011 totaled 19,595 items. This represents a
decrease from last August's tally of 21, 077. A review of all circulation statistics
for all CLAMS library in the month of August shows that this is part of a larger
trend, which saw many libraries experience a slight drop in circulation from last
summer.
Use of the Event and Conference rooms for meetings and programs continues to
increase. Last September, the rooms were booked for 17 events. To date, we have
already booked close to 40 events for the month of September, 35 for the month of
October, and 23 for the month of November. Additional requests have been denied
due to scheduling conflicts.
In order to meet the growing demands for meeting room use, the Eventkeeper
software package was purchased. The software will allow patrons and residents to
fill out an online application to request room use. All requests must be approved by
staff, and an email confirmation will be sent to a representative from the group.
A revised version of The Meeting Room Use policy has been drafted to address
various issues that have surfaced as the request for rooms has grown. Jack
Kowalski and I have met with Town Manager, Joyce Mason, as well as the Town
Counsel, Assistant Town Manager, and Selectman Mike Richardson over the
course of the last month to discuss questions of best practices. The draft policy
incorporates their suggestions and the policy has been strengthened and clarified.
In addition, a new Library Behavior Policy has also been drafted to provide
guidelines for general library use and practices. Although no policy can account for
all contingencies, the new policy is comprehensive and attempts to provide
guidance in most major areas of interest.
This year's Friends of the Library book sale earned more than $3000, which
exceeded all previous events. Got Books collected the majority of unsold books
and will distribute them through to various non-profits or charitable organizations.
