The remainder of the books have been marked down and added to the in-house
book sale, and we anticipate raising an additional $2000 for the Library.
The Library was fortunate and did not sustain any damage or direct loss of power
due to Tropical Storm Irene. We were able to open as planned on the Monday
morning after the storm when we did suffer a short term loss of Internet access due
to a power failure at the CLAMS headquarters. The system was up and running
within several hours.
In other building related news, updates were completed on the solar panels by the
contractor, and they should perform even more efficiently. The carpets were
cleaned immediately following the book sale. Cape Cod alarm is scheduled to
return in the near future to do further work on the alarm system. The DPW has
contracted with an outside carpenter to retro-fit the DVD bin so that it will work
more effectively at the main desk. It is expected to be in use by next week.
The DPW has also agreed to mount the statue "We Are All One," by Milton
Teichman on the time capsule cabinet. The work should be completed shortly.
The Falmouth Public Library has offered to allow us to display a 31) art collection
by Christianne Arnold (http://www.3db3q.com/p/paintings.htmi ) here at the
Mashpee Library and will provide the 3D glasses. The collection includes 8
paintings.
Through our affiliation with the Mashpee CARES group, the staff of the Cape Cod
Neighborhood Support Coalition visited the library and donated over a dozen
books on suicide and suicide prevention. The books were displayed as part of
Suicide Awareness Week and will be permanently added to the collection.
The state ARIS report was completed and submitted to the Massachusetts Board of
Library Commissioners. The report included statistics compiled on holdings,
circulation, programs, services, staffing, and salaries. Numbers for the library
increased significantly from FY 2010, which should result in an increased state aid
award. The second part of the report, which details the financials for the year, is
due in mid-October.
Once the state aid reports are completed, work on the Library's Long Range Plan
will begin. I have met with Steve Brown of Commonwealth Solutions, and
