i <br /> On December 15, we held a very successful volunteer Appreciation Brunch to pay tribute to our <br /> dedicated crew of volunteers. The Library benefits from the services of over 50 volunteers, most <br /> on a year round basis, who have already logged over Zoo hours since July 1, 2011. The brunch <br /> was very well attended and everyone had a wonderful time. <br /> Overall, December ber was a quiet time and almost all of the staff was able to talo some vacation <br /> time. Although this month did not include a full slate of events and programs, we were able to <br /> use some of the downtime to focus on behind the scenes duties,training, and goal setting. Some <br /> staff highlights include: <br /> Janet Trask's on-going work with the volunteers which was evident at the Volunteer <br /> Brunch. The annual lottery for tax abatement slots was held this month, and the Library <br /> received more applicants than we are able to accommodate. Eight volunteers were <br /> selected to receive a Town of 1 la hl ee tax abatement in exchange for volunteer services. <br /> Janet Burke devoted many hours this month to learning homer to catalog books and <br /> materials. Previously, these duties 'ere performed by Bridget Bontr ger and Michelle <br /> Spinney. Michelle graciously spent Hours training staff before leaving us to accept a full- <br /> time job'at CLAIMS. Helene Defoe has also cone in and cataloged for us on a volunteer <br /> basis to help fill the gap-until we hire additional help. <br /> • Susan Cannavo will.be assuming responsibility for Inter Library Loan processes and has <br /> received training in this area. Susan will also be transitioning to the second floor service <br /> desk to allow us to staff that desk more effectively and make it,a full service desk. Susan <br /> will receive the necessary training to help with this new role. <br /> Debbie Umina continues to be invaluable at the Circulation Desk.'She has been available' <br /> on a flexible schedule to help us get through these weeks when we are operating with <br /> reduced staff due to vacancies, vacations, or illness. <br /> Nick McCavitt has worked diligently at updating the Library website and staff Wild. H <br /> is also playing a primary role in shaping our teen services in the areas of graphic novels <br /> and gaming. Nick has also participated in training to develop additional skills for use at <br /> the second floor service desk. . <br /> Allison Gifford has assumed responsibility for ordering a great deal of the materials for <br /> the Adult Book and DVD collection. Her experience and background as a librarian make <br /> her highly qualified to tape on additional duties beyond those included in the Circulation. <br /> Assistant. <br /> 5 <br /> Claudia Hinkle has stepped up to be the leader in the area of processing books. ,She has <br /> performed this role for us as a volunteer for many years and is now beginning to provide <br /> supervision for the current volunteers who previously relied upon Bridget Bntrger t <br /> answer questions and provide guidance. <br /> Together,the staff is working to learn new skills and explore more streamlined methods of <br /> completing duties.. t the request of the T n Manag r, 1 coy p1lc a set of organizational goals <br />
