* t
was not sure if they would reinstate the old process, or consider other alternatives,
such as restricting grant eligibility for libraries with less than 100% compliance.
On September 19, and October 5, I attended meetings of the CLAMS Digital
Resources and Policy Committees.in preparation for thej upcoming Director's
meeting on October 10. These committees are responsible for researching and
making recommendations to the entire group of Library Directors about
acquiring new digital resources and technology for the CLAMS network. This
month CLAMS will be launching on-line patron library card registration, as well
as the CLAIMS app for smart phones. The version which is compatible with the
Android hones is already operational, and the Whone version will,be available in
roughly five weeks. Both of these innovations will help make e atrons more self-
sufficient, and hopefully reduce the amount of staff time required to process
basic service requests. The committee is currently reviewingnhancements for
the CLAIMS catalog which would provide richer content with reader's advisory
tools built into the interface.
However, the committee has had not been able to find a viable solution.to address
the loss of the state funded subscription to the Cape Cod Times online. Until
July, the state had been paying for ar subscription which provided all libraries with
free access to the Cape Cod 'Mmes online, as well as free searches of its extensive
archives. The
p rice quote for the CLAMS network to acquire this service on its
own is well out of'the network's budget.
On October 1, 2012, the Strategic Plan and one Year Action Plan were filed with
the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners. Deb Hoadley of the
Massachusetts achusetts Library System reviewed the plan prior to submission, and she was
very complimentary. She loved the Libraiys new Mission Statement, and
thought the Goals and objectives were ver' achievable, depending on staffing
levels. Many libraries submit plans, which in her opinion, could not be completed
in 50 years, but felt that our committee did a vernice job of identifying critical
needs.
I have been working with the staff'to draft emergency plans and evacuation
routes for the building. I have contacted staff at the Fire and Police Departments
