I would recommend that we clearly differentiate between Study Room use and
Meeting Room use, and do.not apply the same standards to the two locations.
group of four people in a Study.Room would not constitute. a public meeting, and
the Library would not attempn to ascertain the nature of the exchange between
parties.
The larger Meeting Rooms would continue to be reserved in adherence with
Meeting Room policy, which does not allow for the rooms to be used for
commercial ventures. This would preclude reserving the room for larger paid
tutoring or classroom-like.activities.
Families who are homeschooling their children without a paid third party could
reserve a room for a book discussion or activity just as book discussion groups
from'the church or women's clubs frequently do.
During month onth of September I met with Josee Young, the auditor employed
by the town, to review cash handling procedures. Her preliminary recommendations included the need to buy a larger .
safe with a drop-in slot, ars dire machine, limiting staff acce s to cash,
g g
documented procedures for waiving fines, and frequent accounting of fund' and
tarn-overs to the town.
On Wednesday, September 26, I attended the board meeting for the Cape Cod
and Island Library Association: The group is co-hosting a mini-conference with
the Massachusetts Library System on November 1, at the ostemlle Library. The
afternoon will include two training programs. The second program is geared
toward library staff, Trustees, and Friends ofthe Library and deals with ways t
organize advocacy efforts. I will forward information in a separate FDF form.
The Cape Cod volunteers have quietly begun using the Library as their
Opportunity Center. They are planning.a large launch program in the v nt
Room on October 30, and would life to invite the Friends of the Library, and
other local organizations and non-profits who might be seeking volunteers, to F
reserve a table. we are working with the group to generate local publicity for
